Howard County Chapter

Chartered on May 20, 1989, the Howard County Chapter currently has a membership ranging in graduation years from the 1950’s to 2018. Many chapter members have not only continued their education to obtain certifications and master’s degrees, but the chapter has several members that have obtained doctorates.

Scholarships

Education is important to the Howard County Alumni Chapter and awarding scholarships to assist Howard County students in furthering their education is a major goal. The chapter has yearly fundraisers to raise money for scholarships. These fundraisers have enabled the chapter to award several thousand dollars to students who are residents of the Howard County community. Many scholarship awardees are recruited at college fairs that the chapter participates in, both in the community and at Morgan. Continuing MSU students who are from Howard County are also eligible to apply, as long as they meet the criteria.

Doing Good Things

Raising awareness of our beloved alma mater and the good things the Howard County Chapter does in the community has been an on-going commitment. During the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, the chapter donates to either a church, needy family or non-profit organization. Chapter members willingly answer the call when asked for donations. The chapter has donated much needed items as well as money to organizations such as HopeWorks of Howard County (formerly named the Domestic Violence Center of Howard County), Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center, Toys 4 Tots and the Howard County Food Bank.

Environmental Stewards

The Howard County Chapter is making a difference in our community by participating in the county’s “Adopt-A-Road” program. Benson Road (in “Restaurant Row”) is the chapter’s adopted road. Four times a year, volunteers from the chapter help to maintain a clean environment by picking up litter and debris left on the road. Anyone in the area of Benson Road will see a sign that proudly displays our name!

Giving Back

“Giving Back” is what the Howard County Chapter members do diligently, so it’s no surprise that the chapter’s motto is “Let’s Give Something Back.” The chapter and its members donate generously to Morgan. The chapter also supports fellow alumni chapters by purchasing an ad in their fundraising event souvenir journal or by members attending those events. The Howard County Chapter shows support for Morgan in many other ways, all of which have culminated in receiving the “Chapter of the Year” award four times!
